The King’s Coronation Celebrations at Lyonsdown

We had a fabulous day of celebrations to commemorate the Coronation of the King.

The day started with the girls (and teachers) bustling with excitement, dressed in their finest red, white and blue clothes and accessories.
Flags and banners adorned the School’s entrance, Foyer, Sports Hall and Dining Room; the School looked fabulous!

Our festivities began in the afternoon when Miss Telford led a special Coronation Assembly. Miss Telford explained how the King’s ceremony would take place on Saturday morning at Westminster Abbey and how the celebrations would continue throughout the country on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday. We ended the Assembly by singing the national anthem.

The girls in Maypole Club took their places, and Mrs Young introduced a super dance which Ivy, in Year 4 choreographed. The Royal Ribbon Dance was a huge hit; everyone enjoyed it and clapped along to the merry music!

Once the clouds had cleared, we gathered outside for the official opening of our new Science Pond, where Mrs Jenner was assisted by the oldest girl and youngest girl at Lyonsdown for the big reveal. ‘The King’s Pond’ will be a wonderful new resource for the Lyonsdown community.

The girls were then treated to a Union Jack snack box, which our excellent Catering Staff organised for a picnic tea.

We ended our celebrations on a sweet note, so every girl was treated to a delicious ice cream from the ice cream van in the playground. The festivities drew to a close with some dancing!

We all had a wonderful day celebrating the Coronation of King Charles III, long live the King!
