Inspirational Women – House Naming – Year 3 Assembly

Year 3 held an extraordinarily engaging School Assembly regarding the renaming of our four School Houses.

The Lyonsdown School Houses, which used to be named the four primary colours, have recently been renamed after influential historical women who represent our Lyonsdown Learning Habits which are:

  • Perseverance
  • Creativity
  • Collaboration
  • Curiosity
  • Independence
  • Reflection

Mrs Young was seen sprinkling ‘magic dust’ on the girls before they left their Class to start their Assembly; then, the magic unfolded.

Charvi, dressed as a compelling Mrs Hall, introduced herself to the audience and was then met by Mrs Mota (also known as Lily in Year 3).

Mrs Mota then introduced a potential new girl to Mrs Hall, who then had to consider if the candidate was, in fact, good enough to be enrolled as a Lyonsdown girl.

First to the floor was Florence Nightingale (Red House).

Mrs Young produced a crystal ball from behind her back and asked, “will this girl be a Lyonsdown girl?”

A few of the Year 3 girls stood at the front of the audience and gave a brief history of the life of Florence Nightingale. Each girl had a large red card with one of the Lyonsdown Learning habits printed on it. Once they had described Florence’s brief life history to the audience, Mrs Hall (Charvi) asked the audience, “which Lyonsdown Learning Habits do you think Florence had?” The girls threw their arms in the air with excitement and enthusiastically responded with the answer (once Mrs Hall had picked them).

The second child that Mrs Mota (Lily) introduced to Mrs Hall (Charvi) was Rosa Parks (Blue House).

Mrs Young produced a crystal ball from behind her back and asked, “will this girl be a Lyonsdown girl?”

Again, the girls gave a brief history of Rosa Parks’s life and asked the audience, “which Lyonsdown Learning Habits do you think Rosa had?” Again, the excited audience threw their arms in the air as they couldn’t wait to tell Year 3 which Lyonsdown Learning Habits they thought Rosa Park had.

The third child that Mrs Mota (Lily) introduced to Mrs Hall (Charvi) was Mary Anning (Green House)

Mrs Young produced a crystal ball from behind her back and asked, “will this girl be a Lyonsdown girl?”

Again, the girls gave a brief history of Mary Anning’s life and asked the audience, “which Lyonsdown Learning Habits do you think Mary had?” Again, the excited audience threw their arms in the air as they couldn’t wait to tell Year 3 which Lyonsdown Learning Habits they thought Mary Anning had.

Finally, the fourth child that Mrs Mota (Lily) introduced to Mrs Hall (Charvi) was Amelia Erhart (Yellow House)

Mrs Young produced a crystal ball from behind her back and asked, “will this girl be a Lyonsdown girl?”

Again, the girls gave a brief history of Amelia Earhart’s life and asked the audience, “which Lyonsdown Learning Habits do you think Amelia had?” Again, the excited audience couldn’t wait to tell Year 3 which Lyonsdown Learning Habits Amelia had.

Suffice to say, the audience all agreed that the inspirational women who were carefully selected as the new School House names were indeed strong enough candidates to be Lyonsdown girls!
