Celebrating the End of Term with our Wonderful Nativity

Our Nativity is normally a highlight of the festive season, when children in Pre-Reception, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 usually perform together, and there isn’t a dry eye in the house! This year, to be COVID-safe, we have had to adapt the performance and record it for parents to watch.

“It was so important for our School nativity to still take place,” says Head Mrs Stanton-Tonner. “It’s a highlight in parents’ calendars, and it is a wonderful opportunity for our youngest pupils to engage with the Christmas story, as well as a lovely chance for them to experience performing.”

Instead of one nativity, there were four different performances to ensure everyone remained COVID-safe.  The Pre-Reception and Reception both (separately) performed ‘A Very Special Baby’, whilst Years 1 and 2 (separately) performed ‘An Angel, A Star and a Stable’.  All of the nativity performances feature four songs, which the children learnt and sang beautifully!  They were all accompanied on piano, socially distanced, by Year 2’s TA, Miss Shephard.

“We really hope that parents enjoy watching their child’s nativity,” concludes Mrs Stanton-Tonnner.  “The Lyonsdown teachers and staff have put an exceptional amount of time, energy and effort to ensure that the ‘show goes on’. The level of detail and care they have put into the performances, to keep everyone safe, that can’t be seen on screen is astonishing.  From sourcing different props and lovely costumes for each ‘bubble’, to the logistics of getting the performances all filmed safely. My sincerest thanks go to all of the Lower School teachers, including our specialist Music teacher, Mrs Roberts, and our specialist Art teacher, Mrs Cowie, for bringing the nativity to life for all families to enjoy. Thank you to the parents too for the lovely costumes.
