Autumn Letter From The Head

Dear Parents,

This Autumn, many classes have been very busy enriching their learning experiences through a variety of trips and visits and from visitors to school. We have also enjoyed welcoming parents into our Reception to share their knowledge about the various religious festivals which have taken place this term and grandparents to share a favourite story with the children. The diversity of culture and religious beliefs of our school community serves to enrich the lives of all of us as we learn to share, understand and respect.

The Lower School are preparing for the Nativity and the Upper School the Carol Service at Holy Trinity Church, working together to share the Christian festival of Christmas and its meaning at this special time of the year.

We enjoyed a wonderful Harvest Festival with all children from Reception to Year 6 involved in celebration and thanksgiving with singing, poems, prayers and prose. The Pre-Reception joined us for the first time this year and we gave thanks for the wonderful variety of food that we have, for autumn and harvest. Produce was gratefully accepted by the handlers of Homeless Action in Barnet and I thank all Lyonsdown school families for their generosity.

On November 12th, Lyonsdown pupils and teachers marked Remembrance with an assembly. Poppies were also worn and Year 6 laid flowers and paid their respects at the New Barnet War Memorial.

We are all looking forward to the previously mentioned Nativity, in which all Lower School children have a part to play, including the Pre-Reception. I am absolutely delighted that the Friends of Lyonsdown have so generously supported the ‘new performance lighting’ project by contributing £9,000 towards providing the new system. Mrs Everett has worked tirelessly to source the very best and has been on hand at every step of the way to ensure that the project was completed on time. The Trustees have sanctioned the funding for the wiring needed to put this in place, which was completed during the October break when the gym ceiling was being replaced. Performances are very important to Lyonsdown pupils and Mrs Windsor has ordered new carpeted staging which will considerably reduce the stage noise during performances. Once again I would like to thank FLS and all parents who support their events for their generous funding of £4,050 to complete this part of our equipment upgrade.

I very much look forward to seeing it all in action!

Kind regards

Lynn Maggs-Wellings
