Summer Newsletter July 2012

A message from the Headmistress of independent prep school, Lysondown School

Dear Parents,

We have come to the end of yet another very busy term and academic year. The ‘British summer’ may have played havoc with sport, but it has not dampened our spirits. Earlier on in the term we really enjoyed our Diamond Jubilee Celebration, with the fantastic support of the FLS. The children’s (and staff) faces were a picture when every child released their red, white and blue balloons at the same time, (well almost all together!) The celebratory school picnic ‘put the icing on the cake’ so to speak. Lyonsdown children will have special memories of this amazing day.

We enjoyed the excellent production of ‘Wizard of Oz, – But not as you know it’, and a wonderful integrated Olympic day, during which the children were in vertical groups – Reception to Year 6, representing 10 of the countries that will take part in the Games. The children and staff had a brilliant educational experience, celebrated when each country fed back to the rest of the school, highlighting all that they had learnt about their special country, and dressed in their ‘Olympic’ t-shirts – fantastic!

We enjoyed welcoming parents to our open afternoon, the children love to show you around their school and we now look forward to Year 2 to 6 parents joining us for the End of Term celebration on the last day of term.

I wish all Lyonsdown families a wonderful summer break, hoping that it will provide us all with the opportunity to refresh and be ready to take on the challenges of the year to come, whether it be at Lyonsdown or for those children moving on, at their new schools.

Kind regards

Lynn Maggs-Wellings
