Embracing All Girls’ Education
Lyonsdown School is opening a new chapter in its 112-year history, as it announces its plans to become an all girls’ School, alongside a series of exciting updates and enhancements to its facilities and curriculum. For more information, click here.
Lyonsdown Preparatory School is an academically non-selective school. The School will select and offer a place to prospective pupils who we consider will contribute sufficiently to the School community and benefit from the opportunities at the School. We will only offer a place if we can cater for the prospective pupil’s needs bearing in mind our obligations under the Equality Act 2010.
Entry is open to girls aged 3 to 11. All parents are required to register their child on the list of prospective pupils and complete an assessment process appropriate to their age.
Nursery is for 3-4 year olds, and pupils are eligible to join in the September after their third birthday.
Open Days and Visiting the School
If you are interested in enrolling your daughter at Lyonsdown, we strongly recommend that you visit the school and meet the Headmaster. There is no substitute for seeing our pupils hard at work and play and being able to discuss your needs in person.
We hold a number of Open Days throughout the year, which gives a general introduction to the School. We are also very happy to welcome prospective parents and their children at any other times. Please contact the School to arrange a visit.
The Admissions Procedure
Children of 3 and 4 years of age will be considered for admission to the school from the list of registered families. A Registration Form needs to be completed and returned to the school with the non-refundable fee of £100. Unconditional places will be offered approximately 12 months prior to a child’s expected start date, following a meeting with the Headmaster.
Priority will be given to siblings of children already attending Lyonsdown, then to children of ex-pupils. Following this, pupils will be offered places in order of application, in line with the school’s selection process.
If your child is offered a place, such an offer will be subject to our Terms and Conditions (Parent Contract). You can accept an offer by completing an Acceptance Form, together with a deposit of £2,000. Half of this deposit, £1,000, is refunded as a deduction from the fees in a child’s third term at School. The remaining £1,000 is refunded as a deduction from the final payment of fees. If the child leaves before the third term (or the accepted place is rejected by parents before the child starts at Lyonsdown), the full deposit of £2,000 will be retained by the School.
Places are offered with the expectation that girls complete their education at Lyonsdown, leaving at the end of Year 6 (11+).
Later Date Admissions Procedure
Enquiries for a place in other years can be made by contacting the school, as occasionally places become available in Reception to Year 6. A child’s name can be registered for any places that become available. A non-refundable fee of £100 is required to register a child. Should a vacancy arise in the correct year group, we will invite your child to join their peer group for a taster day and assessments in English and Maths. Places are offered in accordance with our Admission Policy and Procedures and at the discretion of the School.
Please see our Admission Policy and Procedures for further details.
