At Lyonsdown we encourage our children to become aware of, and develop compassion for others in less fortunate situations than theirs. As part of nurturing rounded, responsible citizens of both the global and local community, we welcome contributions on any level towards carefully selected charities, which are usually child-based. Lyonsdown responds in a variety of ways, including non-uniform days, special collections, Christmas shoeboxes and carol singing. Friends of Lyonsdown raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care at coffee mornings.
Community service is also encouraged, for example groups visiting the local residential home for the elderly and singing in the local shopping centres.
We feel that this helps to build emotional maturity and social responsibility, which has an impact on pupils’ lives, well beyond school years and educational achievements.
“When we do charity work, each and everyone of us have a spark of happiness inside us, because we know we have made someone feel better.”
