Lyonsdown Prep School has a range of admissions procedures that apply, depending upon your child’s age, time of application, and whether or not your child already has a sibling at the school. Parents are encouraged to attend our Open Days to find out more about the school, and to ask any questions that they may have prior to registering their son or daughter.
Children of 3 and 4 years of age will be considered for admission to the school from the waiting list. A Waiting List Application Form needs to be completed and returned to the school with the non refundable fee. Firm places will be offered approximately 12 months prior to a child’s expected start date – following a meeting with the Headmaster. Priority will be given to siblings of children already attending Lyonsdown Preparatory School, then to children of ex-pupils. Following this, pupils will be offered places in order of application. Pupils entering our Pre-Reception will have automatic entry into our Reception class the following year.
After a place has been offered, a completed Registration Form is required, together with a deposit of £750. This deposit is refunded as a deduction from the fees in the third term of Reception. Should the child leave before this time (or the accepted place be cancelled before the child starts Lyonsdown), the deposit will be retained by the school.
Places are offered with the expectation that boys complete their education at Lyonsdown, leaving at the end of Year 2 (7+) and girls at the end of Year 6 (11+).
The Pre-Reception is only for children intending to join Reception the following year. Up to 16 extra places are available in Reception at 4+ where the children are divided into two classes. If children are not successful in gaining a Pre-Reception place or a preference is given to take up a place from Reception, their names will remain on the waiting list for possible entry.
“This school is special because, if you are new, you soon find friends.”
Later Date Admission Procedure – Reception and Year 1
Enquiries for a place at other times of the year can be made by phoning the school, as occasionally places become available in Reception and Year 1. A child’s name can be placed on a waiting list in case any places become available. A non-refundable fee of £75 will be required for addition to the list. Should a vacancy arise in the correct year group, we will invite your child to join their peer group for a morning’s assessment. Places are offered in accordance with our admission policy.
6+ Admissions Procedure – (Years 2-5)
If any vacancies arise for 6+, 7+, 8+ and 9+ entry, an assessment will take place for possible entry. Places will be offered at the discretion of the school.
Visiting the school is an essential part of the admission process. The best way to do this is to attend one of our open afternoons which take place every term. You will be given a tour and a snapshot of the school as it works on a daily basis by girls from Year 6.
